Weddings
If you planning to get married and have some connection with St Peter's, then you can apply to be married in the church. A person has a Qualifying Connection with a parish if: that person: - was baptised in the parish. (This does not apply where the baptism formed part of a combined service of baptism or confirmation); or
- had his or her confirmation entered in a church register book of a church or chapel in the parish; or
- has at any time had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or
- has at any time habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months
or a Parent of that person has at any time during that person’s lifetime: - had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or
- habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months;
or a Parent or Grandparent of that person was married in the parish. The Church of England has a useful website at http://www.yourchurchwedding.org/ with lots of detail about getting married in church. To discuss this further at St Peter's please contact the church office. BaptismsChristian baptism is about believing in God and belonging to the church family. Adults are baptised into the church family upon public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ. Children who are too young to make this profession for themselves can be baptised into the church family if their parents intend to bring them up within the church family and in a knowledge of the Christian faith. When older, the child will then be able to "decide for themselves" and profess their own faith in a service of confirmation. Those asking for their child to be baptised at St Peter's church will be asked to attend a meeting where this is explained in more detail. We ask all parents bringing a child for baptism to first take part in a service of thanksgiving. Thanksgivings For parents who want to celebrate the birth of their child we offer a service of thanksgiving. This act takes place during the main Sunday morning church services. Weddings, baptisms and thanksgivings can be arranged by contacting the church office.
